Showing June 10 through July 9
In 2016, while I was at my gallery on Broad Street, Ina McDowell approached me and asked if I thought David Peavy would be interested in bringing his trade days downtown. David was on Hwy. 71 at this time. I knew David because he was one of the artist in my Downtown Gallery with his photography.
After talking with Ina, David Peavy bought the old Texas Produce/Ritchie Grocery building. He came to me and said he had something to show me.
David brought me to 105 Olive Street, the old Ritchie Grocery building and said, "What do you think of the building and creating a gallery here?" I was overwhelmed with the possibilities of the building and very quickly said, "Let's do it!"
David want a gallery in the front of the building and in 2017 renovations began. During the renovations Trade Days were held inside and outside the building. In November, I closed the Downtown Gallery and moved into 1894 City Market and began moving, cleaning, and getting things set up. We hung the art on the hanging walls created by David Peavy. The Gallery opened on February 1, 2018. Step by step The Gallery has developed and grown. Baby, we have come a long way! and it will continue to grow.
In June 2020, Kathy Hudson and I opened Arts on Broad but by October of that year it became evident we needed to find a new location. David Peavy came by and said he had us covered. By December we made a deal with him to rent a newly renovated part on the first floor of the 1894 City Market. We started moving in but before the move was completed the plan changed and we merged Arts on Broad with The Gallery. Since becoming one gallery Georgia Hubnik, Kathy Hudson, and I have worked to continue bringing the best in local art to Texarkana. As the new owner of The Gallery I am grateful to Georgia for beginning the art movement in downtown Texarkana. Without Georgia Hubnik leading the way she has allowed me to fulfill my dream of being the owner of an art gallery in Texarkana.
